Sometimes All You Need Is Dirt

During the first week we lived in our house we had water problems in the basement. Here are some reminders of what we experienced.

We had many estimates on how to fix the water problems, ranging from $12,000 to $35,000. There was no way we wanted to pay that much money after we initially bought the house.

In August we tore out all of the bushes along the back and side of the house and discovered the dirt graded toward our house not away from it.  We also discovered a basement window that is covered from inside the house!

So we ordered four cubic yards of dirt one weekend in October. In case you did not know four cubic yards of dirt is approximately 4.5 tons or 9,000 lbs.

We have also been good at keeping the gutters cleaned. We might need to buy better gutter guards.....
We are going to add some more dirt when it gets warmer.  This should help in the spots that the dirt settled.

We have had a few very wet weeks lately and so far so good. We have not had an ounce of water in the basement.

Could our problems really be solved with $150 of dirt?
I hope so!
